Tonight is the last South Florida Praise & Coffee Night of 2012

November 8, 2012 By: Melissa

It’s TONIGHT!!!

11/8/12

7-9pm

 Fall is here…well, it’s as “fall” as it gets in South Florida and we’re getting together with our girlfriends for a night out to connect with each other, be encouraged by each other, and be inspired by what God is doing in our lives.

This South Florida Praise & Coffee Night will be unlike any that we have done before. We know that each of us has “stuff” going on in our lives and we want to take a minute to celebrate what God is doing in the middle of our “stuff” for the night.

  •  Sweet D’s Cakes will be bringing cupcakes and muffins again (yum!!!)
  •  Emily Martuscelli will be leading us in a time of worship.
  •  Give Aways — every woman loves a great give away
  •  Three special guests (Colie Maxwell, Julie Brasington aka The Happy Home Fairy, & Paulette Smith) sharing a bit of their world with us…

Yes, we may be going through “stuff”, but God can use that for His glory. Come on out and celebrate with a few friends!

We’ll be at Sawgrass Community Church, located at 17950 Griffin Road, SW Ranches, FL 33331

We would love to see you there!
~ Melissa ♥

The kids will be back in school, Labor day will have come and gone…and chances are you are gonna be ready for a night out just for you!

We have a special guest joining us for this event —Lisa Shaw, author of ‘You Are Beautiful In God’s Eyes‘, speaker, ministry leader…and more importantly, friend.

We’ll also have incredible worship, yummy desserts and of course…lots of coffee & great conversation!

Save the date, get a babysitter, call a friend and make sure to join us on
Thursday, September 13th from 7-9pm.

If you could RSVP to the event on Facebook, that would be great, that way we know how many cupcakes to have ready.

It’s not required though, you can decide at any time to join us and just show up…we’d love to have you there!

If you aren’t in the South Florida area, then you are still in luck…we have Praise & Coffee Nights going on all over the world. Simply click here, Praise & Coffee Nights, to see if there is one in your neck of the woods.

Headed Out To #TGCW12 Conference, Woohoo!

June 22, 2012 By: Melissa

I can hardly stand it.

I didn’t sleep much last night.

It’s sort of like going to Disney World for me…ok, maybe not like Disney World, but the excitement and anticipation has been building for weeks as I prepare to go to Orlando for The Gospel Coalition’s Women’s Conference (or #TGCW12 if you wanna follow along on Twitter).

It has been quite some time since I’ve looked forward to something this much, and finding out that a few of my bloggy buddies will be there too…well, that is just the icing on top of the cupcake (which, by the way, is the BEST part of the cupcake…just sayin!)

Here’s a little bit about TGCW12;
Here Is Our God!

God’s Revelation of Himself in Scripture

The Gospel Coalition’s 2012 National Women’s Conference is for women but not all about women. It’s about the gospel of Jesus Christ. It’s a time to learn more of what Scripture says to us—and to say it to each other. A time to dig deeper into the character of God and his purpose for his people. A time to gather together and share biblical encouragement  as sisters, daughters, wives, mothers, and friends.

I have even heard that some of the sessions will be streamed live, so if you wanna come check it out but can’t make it to Orlando, log in here and watch right along with us.

The boys are all staying home this weekend, I’m sure they have lots of manly stuff planned, which is fine by me, they need it and so do I. I will be tweeting from the conference (if you tweet follow along with me here, I’m @Mels_World) and sharing all the little nuggets of inspiration I pick up along the way.
If you wouldn’t mind saying a prayer for us as we travel I would certainly appreciate it. I’m headed up with two other awesome chicks that I’m blessed to do life & ministry with from my church (West Pines Community Church) and it looks like rain and thunderstorms all the way up from Ft. Lauderdale to Orlando.

Thanks so much for your prayers, we totally appreciate them!

Here’s a little snip-it from the conference website about the online streaming and who’s going to be there this weekend;

We’re also excited to announce that our friends at The Gospel Project will be helping us broadcast the conference live. Starting at noon EDT on Friday with Tim and Kathy Keller talking about “Marriage in Gospel Focus,” the broadcast will feature every event through Sunday noon on the conference main stage, including all plenary sessions; workshops by Elyse Fitzpatrick, Carolyn Mahaney, and Lauren Chandler; and Focus Gatherings on parenting, urban ministry, pastor’s wives, grief, and the church in Asia. In addition, we’ll be recording interviews with many of the speakers and guests to be broadcast during breaks in the conference livestream schedule.

So even if you can’t join us in Orlando, we hope you’ll tune in this weekend to share in this landmark event. We’re thrilled that love for God has motivated thousands of women to travel from around the world to spend their weekend focusing on the gospel of Jesus Christ so they can leave inspired and equipped to serve in their churches, families, and neighborhoods.

Check in at noon EDT on Friday to hear from Tim & Kathy Keller.

Godly Gals ~ Real Women, Real Life, Real Faith ~ Celebrity by Jenna Lang

February 16, 2012 By: Melissa

Celebrity
By: Jenna Lang

Between the Internet, the grocery store check-out lane and celebrity gossip on television, it’s possible to know how many children a celebrity has, what she eats to maintain her figure, whom she’s in a relationship with, who she likes to hang out with and even where she shops.

In fact, it’s easy to know so much about her life that if I bumped into her on the street I might ask about how her toddler is getting over wanting to sleep in her bed. An expert at understanding her appeal, she would probably laugh and answer.

But the fact is, while I may know all about her, I don’t know her.

To truly know her, I would have to spend time listening to her; finding out where her heart was on the issues of life. I would have to have discussions where she could more specifically share her innermost thoughts with me.

There was a time when I approached my relationship with God by seeking to know all about Him more than knowing Him. I was willing to know His Word (an essential for knowing Him) and I was willing to obey some of the nudges from the Holy Spirit (the ones I was comfortable with) but taking time to sit down and pour my heart out, then listen for that still small voice?

Ummmm… no. First of all, I didn’t have time. I had two children, a writing career, my husband’s ministry to run and a women’s Bible Study to study for and promote. Second of all, why should I? I was clearly operating in my gifts—people gave me great feedback on what I was teaching and speaking. AND, I wasn’t jumping through what I had identified as the worst legalistic hoops. So, obviously, I was in a close relationship with Him.

So I continued on. Teaching women God’s Word. Having fun. Getting very excited when I learned something else about Him and His Word.

That is, until my life turned upside down.

All of a sudden, the only way I could breathe was to be in His presence every few hours. No longer was He someone I mostly knew about, but He was my most intimate friend; my source of strength and song. In the midst of destruction, I could turn my face to Him and have joy. Joy that seemed to grow larger and larger within me—“fullness” of joy.

Today, I can honestly say that while I regret some of my choices that helped put me on that path to devastation, I don’t regret the devastation; because it led me to His embrace. When the scripture uses the word “know” it refers to intimate knowledge. Knowing Him intimately is an incredible source of joy to me—my greatest satisfaction.

My prayer for you, dear one, is that you will choose every day to go beyond knowing about Him to knowing Him—so that your joy will be full!

A Little Bit About Jenna:
Jenna lives in a small town just north of Dallas, Texas. She loves to laugh and works hard to maintain a tender heart; which actually doesn’t lead to much laughter, but is essential for intimacy with her Favorite. When she isn’t speaking to women’s groups or writing for them, she is supporting herself by writing fascinating things like training guides, magazine articles, curriculum and other “ghost” projects. Her book, Lord, I Need H.E.L.P.! Six Actions for Getting Through Tough Times, will be available at the end of 2012. (Lord willing and the creek don’t rise.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jenna girl, you have no idea how happy it makes me to see you visiting here with us for the Godly Gals series! What a sweet blessing it was to meet you face to face this past January! Only God could know just how much we both needed to hear from Him on that trip, then to throw us into each other’s world…well…that was just a giant bonus! I can’t wait to continue to watch Him move through you!
That’s the heart of what this series is about…talking to, visiting with, listening to Real Women, Real Life, Real Faith in action! Sweet sister…that is YOU too!
Right now God’s been doing something amazing in your life and you just can’t wait to share it…why not share it here?
I’m taking submissions right now for the series and it starts with a simple email to me at melsworldministry {at} gmail {dot} com asking for a copy of the submission guidelines.
We’ll email, chat, visit and hopefully I can answer any of your questions. Then when you’re ready you can send something in for the series…it’s that simple!
I’d love to hear from you!
Calling All Moms! It’s Time to Check Out Mom Time TV /Radio
February 6, 2012 By: Melissa
Hello friends…I have been meaning to tell you about this fantastic resource for months and keep on forgetting to post it online for you to check out.
I’ll blame it on being 40 now…or my “Dory”-like tendencies, but either way today is the day that you find out a little more about MOM TIME TV!
I’ve been a part of the radio show for a few months now and each time I walk away with little nuggets of wisdom that I can apply to my own family right that very day!
You’re not in this alone moms…come and listen in, you’ll be so glad you did!
Today we’re talking about HELICOPTER PARENTING!
Buckle up, this could be a very interesting discussion!
MON FEB 6, 2012
MOM TIME TV
with your host Sharon Girodo
Call & Join the Moms!
877-864-4869
Our parenting styles are very different from our own parents, which is a good thing because times have changed and we go a little farther to keep our kids safe. But how far is too far? Are we keeping our kids safer by watching over them every minute? And when is it ok to let go? We are hovering. So what is that doing to our children?
HELICOPTER PARENTING
3PM EST
Here’s a little bit about Mom Time TV;
Mom Time TV is all about moms. The things we do, the things we think, the decisions we make and what makes us tick. There is a great spirit of pride in being a mom, but it doesn’t come without fear, failure and fatigue. And the endless question…am I doing this right? Am I the best mom I can be? Can I overcome this mistake or that one?
We’re always pregnant with the perfect child and we have perfect plans to be the perfect parent. But it’s not long after our child arrives that we realize it’s not nearly everything we thought it would be. And so we go on…acting like we’re perfect but frustrated by our flaws, looking good on the outside and holding some measure of misery inside.
We’re women…we talk. It’s a scientific fact that that’s the key to our happiness (and survival). But often when we become moms our base of friends changes or disappears. If we’ve left jobs, we’ve also left our comfort zone and our fellow commiserators. And we’re often alone.
Mom Time TV is a resource for all moms. A safe place to laugh and share, form friendships, compare notes and figure out how to do a better job at the most important job we will ever have. How do we put good, happy, confident kids out in the world to have their own good, happy, confident kids? How do we start a revolution of moms taking pride in what they are doing to make this a better world?
Mom Time TV is all about talk, stories, what worked, what didn’t. Knowing we’re not alone and accepting help from each other along the way. Taking refuge in the force rather than the farce. Living the life and loving it, because we’re not alone.
The Mom Time TV radio show is comprised of all different moms with all different experiences sharing our stories, successes, failures and allowing the listener/participant to decide if it makes sense to them and what to pick up on versus what to leave behind. Because we’re all different…and our decisions are all based on our own facts. A lively, fun discussion of motherhood and making it as a mom.
Here’s a link to the previous podcasts, I am sure that there are many on there that you will enjoy and learn from. These are REAL moms…just like YOU.
Sharing our stories, our hurts, our expectations, our reality…by moms for moms!
